Persist Colors
The Persist Color via Schema setting allows you to control whether color changes made through the Homey app are permanent or temporary on your Smart Stairs.
If the setting is unchecked, color changes are “live” and will revert to the original schema as configured in the official Upstairs app after a power cycle or when motion animations occur. Motion animations are the step-by-step lighting effects triggered when someone walks up or down the stairs.
Enabling this setting ensures that any color changes made through Homey are persistent and not overridden by existing motion or daily schemas from the official app.
How It Works
Unchecked (Live Color)
Color changes are temporary.
After a power loss or when a motion animation completes, the stairs will revert to the original schema defined in the Upstairs official app.
Useful if you want to maintain existing official app schedules and only temporarily override the color.
Checked (Persisted Color)
All default schedules you configured via the Homey app are removed.
A single schema is created for the entire day (00:00–24:00) representing the currently set color.
Any subsequent color changes via Homey will automatically update this schema, ensuring the stairs always display the desired color.
Ideal if you want Homey to fully control the color without falling back to the original Upstairs schedules.
Locating the Setting
Open the Homey Mobile App or Homey Web App.
Navigate to Devices and select your Upstairs Smart Stairs device.
Open Device Settings:
Mobile App: Tap the ⚙️ gear icon → Advanced Settings
Web App: Click the ⚙️ gear icon and scroll to Advanced Settings
Locate the Persist Color via Schema checkbox.
Best Practices
Keep the checkbox unchecked if you want to preserve official app schedules and only temporarily override colors.
Check the box if you want Homey to fully manage the color, ensuring persistence across power cycles and motion animations.
Remember: Enabling this will overwrite all official Upstairs app schedules for the device.
